Communication is the key to successful international cooperation.
Who
Verena Ohanian (geb. Piper)
I am a psychologist and mediator, specialised in intercultural psychology. Particularly, I am interested in aspects of dealing with stress and conflicts in the intercultural context.
I still remember my first intercultural experiences abroad. At that time, I was not aware of the cultural difference between Canada and Germany. Nevertheless, I perceived that in Canada something was different and things didn’t function as at home. I wanted to find out what it was. Since then I have also been involved with intercultural communication on my professional path.
After my own stays abroad in Vancouver, Canada and some time in Mexico City, I now live in Hamburg. Besides my work as a trainer and consultant, I am also a research associate and lecturer at the Chair of Community Psychology, University of Hagen. My research interests focus on intercultural competence, the effectiveness of diversity interventions as well as the research-practice exchange concerning intercultural trainings and evidence based practice.
