Home again and still feeling out of place?
Repatriation
Coming back
Coming back is a special phase of the intercultural trip. After a longer stay abroad our „backpacks“ are full of new experiences. This includes unforgettable great experiences but also difficult ones. Whether good or bad – these experiences have influenced us and back at home not everything is like it used to be. Many expatriates have the feeling that they are „floating“ between worlds after they have returned. They question is, why do they all of a sudden encounter difficulties in their own culture.
Most expatriates try to prepare themselves for their stay abroad, however, few expect that the former home culture would feel foreign one day. Can we actually prepare ourselves for going back to our home culture? In the end we have grown up in this cultural environment. Shouldn’t we already know it by heart?
Yes, we can prepare ourselves for the reintegration through training and coaching. This training gives answers to many questions that arise with the return. The training allows participants to reflect on the process of repatriation and find strategies to feel at home in their native country and former workplace. Also, we will find ways to make use of the gathered experiences abroad for the current or future job position. The life and career planning of participants is therefore a basic component of this training.
